Melvin Jones
Born on 13 January 1879 in Fort Thomas, Arizona, USA, the son of a US Army captain. He made his home in Chicago, became associated with an insurance company and formed his own agency in 1913.

Lions Clubs International began with Melvin Jones’s belief that business talent should serve communities. Lion M. R. Siddiqui carried that spirit into the institutional growth of Lionism in Chattogram.

Born on 1 March 1926 in Chittagong. He took his Masters in Commerce from Calcutta and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of London, qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England and was elected a member of the Royal Economic Society and the Royal Statistical Society, UK.
1963—1966
The institutional journey of vision care in Chattogram
Under Lion M. R. Siddiqi’s initiative, an outpatient service began in 1963. A charitable eye hospital opened in the ‘Lions Den’ building in 1965, and the Chittagong Lions Foundation was formed in 1966 to operate the service.
